Happy Tuesday y'all..The sun is (finally) out and it seems as tho summer might make an appearance after all.
So, I'm sure you have been following what is going on in the NYS Senate. For those who have not, last week there was a "coup" in the Senate, the object was to oust the Democrats from leadership. Well, then what? Nothing. Is it legal? I don't know..Neither political party wants to admit defeat, and both seek to claim victory. Both want to be in charge.
I suppose the want, the desire the NEED to dominate is pretty strong in us, some more than others. The consequences to such a trait are usually thrown by the wayside, all bets are off when it comes to a power struggle. All types of power struggles go on everywhere, every day with everyone. I see it as quite a common trait in us, we all want to be on top, no one wants to be the loser. How far these situations are taken is an entirely different matter. Wars have been waged, people have been killed. Now, there is no (physical) bloodshed in the Senate struggle, but there are some major consequences.
As I have mentioned, this attempted coup took place last week, on June 15. For those of you who don't know (or care), the legislative session is slated to end on, or about June 22. WHY wait until the 11th hour? This has ground all work to a halt, bills are not being passed, laws are not being created. There is no GOVERNING going on in the government. Oh sure, the Assembly is passing bills but, without the Senate passing the same bill, it does not become a law. Remember the Schoolhouse Rock song about the bill sitting on Capitol Hill? Well, there are a whole bunch of those little guys sitting here on State Street.
So basically, we are all sitting here in this HUGE marble government complex staring at the wall. All because a few Senators are acting like bullies on the playground. What they need is a good old fashioned game of "King of the Hill" - remember that game? Whoever was able to stand on the top of the hill without getting knocked off, wins.
I suppose the reason (one them) that this situation INFURIATES me is that nothing is being accomplished. NOTHING.. And ego is to blame. So many staff have worked their as*es off (including myself) to prepare bills to be passed...and they are sitting collecting dust. For who knows how long. ARAG...Any thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks for letting me rant a bit..A nice vacation will do me just fine..
